From Anatomy to Zen: What are the differences in dating for white and black women? My friend April and I discuss.

I love attempting to walk in someone else’s shoes…even if it’s for only a short period of time. My podcast this week is very special to me. Meet April: she’s a 32 yr old professional black woman who lives in Silver Spring and is sharing her experience of what it’s like dating as a black woman in DC.

I was curious to find out what her experience was with dating after we spent an afternoon chatting at the Beer and Bacon Fest in Woodbridge earlier this fall. We covered everything from dating men of different races to how often she gets cat called. Let me know your thoughts in the comment section below.

I really enjoyed your podcast. My name is Jimmie. I have been out of a relationship for a little over two years. Being a single, somewhat cute, African American male in the D.M.V. is tough. It seems like their are higher expectations now more then ever before to find the perfect mate. Shows like "The Bachelor" help set the expectation. Unfortunately this is .the same t.v. show that will not have a African American man or woman be the bachelor. The t.v. show audience seems to be cool with shows like Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder. Both programs show powerful African American Women dating or married to Cacausian Males. If it was the other way around I’m show that audiences would not tune in as much. April was correct when she said that the older African American generation wants us to date within our own race. My ex-lady was Caucasus. To me beauty comes in all shapes, sizes and colors.
