Last week marked the 1 yr anniversary of Sarah, Ty, and Mel on DC’s 107.3. 1 freaking year! Where did the time go?
When I think about this past year I’m super grateful. Grateful that 107.3 and my boss at the time, Gillette believed in the idea of creating Sarah, Ty, and Mel. The only show in a top 10 market in the country with two women’s names on the title…or as Ty likes to say three women’s names because he was named after a female figure skater;) That in itself is pretty amazing. Despite the fact that it’s 2015 how many radio shows can you name that even have one woman’s name on the title? Sadly, not many.
On top of that our boss and the company said yes to creating a real, authentic, vulnerable, and local morning show. A combination of anything goes. Pretty non-traditional for radio. When I look back on what we’ve done this past year I’m proud. From our Victoria Secret Protest, Mel launching her blog and moving from Tampa to DC, Ty’s summer of yes, Bikini Challenge 107.3, and Samy K joining the show, a lot has happened. All this came from believing in and taking a risk.
I know so many of you have dreams. You’re dreaming of starting your own business, leaving your current job, going for that passion you have deep inside but the idea is scary and unsure. I know, I’ve been there.
The journey of starting something that is your own is difficult and filled with set backs and unexpected turns but it’s worth it. I hope if you’re on the fence about jumping and taking a risk on yourself you jump. JUMP. Do it. You’ll never regret putting all your chips on yourself, I haven’t for one second. Of course it hasn’t been all butterflies and roses. The show has had its moments of agreeing and disagreeing, moments where I’m sure we wanted to quit or didn’t think it would work, but we kept our passion and mission at the core.
I have no idea what the next year will bring. My goal? To make Sarah, Ty, and Mel the number one morning show in the DMV. Over my vacation I also started reading a great book that my boyfriend Dan recommend…How Champions Think by Dr. Bob Rotella. I highly recommend it. The book focuses on golf but there is so much to learn if you’re setting out to reach any goal. Starting your own business, creating a new invention, starting a new job. I hope to have Bob on the show or podcast soon.
So here’s to you going for your dream in 2015! I always love hearing from you. Feel free to leave a comment about your goals, fears, and the show. Thank you for continuing to support me. The best is yet to come.
