Tysons Corner has some of the best restaurants, bars, and shopping in DC area…
Recently, I was invited to stay at The Hyatt Regency Hotel Tysons Corner Center for a weekend getaway by the Director of Sales/Events & Marketing, Nancy Longstreth and her colleague Valerie Laub. They put my boyfriend Dan and me up for a relaxing weekend. We stayed for two nights in their gorgeous presidential suite, which was totally unexpected. We knew we’d be staying in one of their beautiful rooms but the Presidential suite was like experiencing what J.Lo and Arods world’s must be like for a weekend. We enjoyed, great restaurants, bars, beers, food, shopping and more…
The Hyatt hotel at Tyson’s Corner sits right at the heart of Tysons Corner and adjacent to the Tyson Corner Mall. There are always more events going on than one single person could participate in so you will never be without something to do. Check out this event calendar.
Restaurants and Bars!
On Friday night I enjoyed dinner with my friend Krista, who is a former radio intern of mine, at Barrel and Bushel which is the classic American restaurant located at the Hyatt. The restaurant and bar were fabulous! Delicious food and drinks with many of the items on the menu locally sourced! Check out their dinner menu.
Krista and I started our dinner off with a Maryland Blue Crab Roll and a locally grown heirloom tomato and cucumber salad. Then we each ordered a fabulous vegan entree. The food was all delicious. Barrel and Bushel offer 22 local and regional craft beers on tap. I went with the Cucumber Pama Martini. The ambiance of the restaurant is modern contemporary and their bar is a perfect place for drinks with a friend or a casual business meeting. I highly recommended putting it on your list of must eats in Tysons.
For your sweet tooth
And, of course, Krista and I had dessert. Krista was set on the multi-layer Smith Island Cake so we decided to treat ourselves! The cake was gorgeous in presentation and the flavor was outstanding!
Other fabulous local restaurants in the area
On Saturday we went to one of my favorite Tysons restaurant’s Nostos which is a Modern Greek restaurant. The food is so good I couldn’t stay vegan. We enjoyed a spread of, TZATZIKI, Greek yogurt with cucumber, garlic and herb, MELITZANOSALATA, roast eggplant whipped with olive oil, garlic, parsley and lemon, and TYROKAFTERI, feta cheese and hot pepper spread. Plus Greek Beans and GARIDES SAGANAKI, sautéed shrimp with feta cheese, tomatoes, pine nuts, and raisins.
Events and Excitement
Saturday morning on Tyson’s corner plaza the Fairfax County police were holding a local outreach day and they displayed their fleet of vehicles which included old and new cruisers. I have a weakness for vintage cars so I had to stop and socialize with the officers and take a few pixs.
Then it was time for shopping! First, I hit Lord & Taylor (that’s where I buy all my BCBG jackets and dresses because the sale prices are so good), then it was onto Zara (which is also another one of my favorites). Finally, I spent the afternoon picking up odds and ends at Sephora like Kat Von D tattoo liner (I’ve never tried it, do you like it?) and Becca Shimmering Skin Perfection highlighter in champagne pop.
After a packed day of shopping I decided to take a walk to the Tyson’s Biergarten to grab a beer. It’s a little over a mile from Hyatt but it’s a nice walk and the weather was perfect that day. The garden bar area feels like downtown DC, lots of young people having fun and drinking great beer. One of the many signs Tyson’s is becoming a hot spot for people to live, shop, and hang out.
For the family
Another amazing experience Hyatt offers is an American Girl Doll experience for families. I don’t have kids (as you all know) but I would have loved this as a little girl. A sleepover tailored to your purchase and excursion to the American Girl Doll store.
The heavenly rooms…
Let me start by saying the sleeping conditions at Hyatt are the best! Dan and I had a king size bed that was like sleeping on a cloud. The sheets we crisp and welcoming. The room had perfect soft lighting. Each morning we woke up to the gorgeous sunshine pouring in from floor to ceiling through the windows of our room.
We can’t get enough
Everything at the Hyatt is warm and welcoming. Dan and I were taken care of by Val and Nancy and their wonderful group of guest service members. Anything we needed they were right there to guide us and help us relax. Staying at the Hyatt is like spending a weekend in your own backyard but better than you could imagine. Changing your scenery can be just the thing to recharge your battery and get the creative juices flowing again. Great food, great restaurants, great bars all located within walking distance of the Hyatt!
Make Hyatt your next destination when planning a staycation or a fun nigh out!
